Asser Munch

My name is Asser Munch, I'm an architect and architecture guide in Copenhagen. On this blog I'm the author, photographer, programmer/webmaster, ...etc. I'm co-founder and co-owner of beCopenhagen ApS, that organises guided tours, sightseeing and events in Copenhagen and surrounding area. In my past I have teached at School of Architecture at the Aarhus School of Architecture and later as building architect at smaller, very diverse building projects. Architecture and the city's structure and causalities had my interest my whole career. I am instinctively suspicious towards the often bloated and overly intellectual language of my otherwise brilliant fellow architects, when they describe and justify their own or others design. Too often specultaive, pretentious, mystic or outright nonsense. As a teacher I found the ambition to communicate architecture in a straightforward and accessible manner. This is an ambition that I now carry on in my way of connecting dots through the city, not least for people with no professional knowledge or language . You can try it yourself and learn a lot about Copenhagen architecture, urban spaces and much more by joining one of my bike tours with beCopenhagen . You are more than welcome to bring colleagues, family, friends and you soccer team! You can contact me directly at asser@becopenhagen.dk. See you on the bike lanes in Copenhagen :)

Stephen: This tour was exceptional, a highlight of our short trip to Copenhagen. It helped us break out of the most walkable area of the city and see more parts to explore. Asser catered the tour perfectly to our group. I personally did not know much about Danish architecture or even Denmark, and I left the tour impressed and with some insights on what it's like to live or study in Copenhagen. He also answered questions we had about the rest of our trip, being one of the few locals we spent an extended amount of time with and felt comfortable asking. 100% recommend booking this! ✩✩✩✩✩

  • Worn beauty! Skolen ved Sundet (school on charming #amager) is in desperate need of an overhaul (which is coming, soon I hope). But damages, faded colours and general decay almost emphasizes the unmistakable grace of this old, playful lady, born in #1938. Kaj Gottlob (1887 - 1976) is one of my own favourites among the many Danish functionalist master architects because he combined the unassuming modesty of the Danish traditions with a playful curiosity displayed in colours and geometry. #skolenvedsundet #heroarchitect #kajgottlob #functionalism . . . . . . . #Copenhagen #visitcopenhagen #sharingcph #voreskbh #delditkbh #københavn #igerscopenhagen #architecture #architectural #architecturaldesign

  • The Danish Jewish Museum in Copenhagen is designed by world famous Daniel Libeskind. It hides behind a solid steel door in one side of the old Royal Library. As a precious jewel in a treasure shrine. . Libeskind’s work carries so much storytelling and interpretation that I would argue that it is sometimes more art than architecture. At least in this case, I think it is safe to say, that the artful expression dominates the functional aspects of his work. . Read more in my blogpost.
